Microtransactions in Esports

Microtransactions have always had a negative impact within games, and players playing the games. While they can be very lucrative for games, and the gaming industry but have always had a negative impact for gamers. The general idea of microtransactions, is that players don’t have to play money if they don’t want to, but they can if they want to either advance their progress within the game, or buy cosmetic items. This demographic works well with mobile games such as Clash of Clans and Pokemon Go. This means games are able to attract lots of players due to the low cost, and free aspect of the games. This generally means games have large player bases and can make games more fun to play. On the other hand, there are also games that require microtransactions, or money be spent in order to have a chance at winning or competing. Players are often tempted by a free to play game, or an easy beginning. When the game progresses spending money on the game becomes necessary. This is a big reason games might not sell so well on the market.

Most games being released contain microtransactions in some way. When developers make it so microtransactions effect cosmetics within a game the community has a much more positive reaction to it. But when it comes to pay to win, or even things like season passes, most people would either not have them or just pay for a game up front and get all the content that would be locked away.
